I'm sorry to disagree. There are numerous ways to determine size and while physical size may be a factor to determine how much air supply you have, it does not determine the quality of sound; e.g. Arnold Jacobs had a small lung capacity and was probably 5'10" or so but had an enormous sound.

There are many other examples of professionals who are not "big" but play big. As a teacher, I've seen numerous big guys who sound really thin and pinched.

Regardless of size, if Roger (in the original post) will learn to use his air correctly, develop a good concept of sound, and practice a lot, he can develop a large sound.

There does seem to be a lot of large tuba players, though.
