Jay has put this most eloquently. I was a lucky music ed major at a great time to be at IU. Teaching was not my main interest but a fall back. I was also fortunate to be starting a teaching job in Ft. Wayne in 1970 just when the previous tubist was leaving. I was pretty mediocre to poor by my present standards. The job here grew and so did I.
If I were to do it over again I would certainly have been a performance major and quite probably would have an even better job now.
