It's my understanding that August Helleberg made mouthpieces for whatever tuba he happened to be using. He wanted a m/pc that acoustically matched the tuba. I'm not sure what Paul was referring to with regards to inconsistency. It is my understanding that he was a VERY respected craftsman and undoubtably the premier player of his day. Some of his orginal mouthpieces occasionally surface, however he died in 1936, so the chances of finding one is pretty slim. Just remember that the most notable features of the Helleberg was a fairly flat rim and a funnel shaped cup. Rim widths and inside diameters varied. Cup depth could also vary. He used CC and F tubas so that would certainly have affected m/pc dimensions. I hope this helps.
