Civic Orchestra of Chicago

Above is a link to a page discussing what the Chicago Civic is about. They and the New World Symphony are pretty much the 2 greatest training orchestras in the nation. Tubists who have served in the Civic include David Fedderly, John Taylor, Chris Hall, Bob Tucci, and many others. The ensemble draws many of it members internationally also. Every year, everyone in the orchestra, plus anyone else who want to, must reaudition for their spot. The person listening on the other side of the screen is typically the principal player of the same instrument in the Chicago Symphony.

String players who are accepted are offered full scholarships to any of the larger schools in the Chicagoland area for that year and the non-string players are allotted $4000 each in grants for music related expenses.

It ain't an all-city band by any means.
