Not generally, in fact it is usually easier to execute faster passages using only 4 or 3 valves depending on the player. Fewer valves equals fewer combinations which may equal more speed. Honestly, you get used to whatever number of valves you have eventually. The trick is to sound good, not to have the most valves! I advocate 5 valve tubas simply because they work for me and, in my experience, are easier to play in tune. I have also found that, given ample practice time, the 5th valve is as comfortable for me to use as any valve I use. Even very complex passages can be executed using the 5th valve if you practice them adequately. You should try some 5 valve tubas and see what you think.
