Ebs have a tradition in England where they are used in the brass bands as a second tuba part baove the Bbb parts often played in octave or more soloistically. For many years they were also considered student horns in US like a 1/2 sized violin of sorts. Recently though they have been becoming more popular and more manufacturers are beginning to build quality instruments. Nircl, Willson, Meinl Weston, Yamaha and of cousrse Besson all make professional high quality Ebs now. They have a voice all of their own and are ver flexible instrumnents. sort of a blend of the lighter F and the heavier CC or BBb. I use an old Boosey almost exclusively. It has abeautiful tone and great stability and intonation. If it was good enough for Fletcher it is good enough for me! ken k
