I got braces last May, was a trumpet player then, and switched to Euphonium because of it. I still play trumpet some, and still played it then, and the first month was the hardest part...It still is very hard, but only because Trumpet is no longer my primary instrument. I have never used any of the Braces protectors, lip guards, or even wax, because they just don't work for me. On the other hand, I know another Trumpet player that they [the braces protectors] work great for. It is just a matter of the individual player. I believe, however, that playing the first part in a quintet a week after he got braces would be near impossible.
