I own a 641 and it is a great little horn but its capabilities are limited. One of the reasons I play Eb instead of F is because there are very few F tubas I ever tried that have any kind of low range at all. The 641 plays exactly like an F tuba despite the fact that it is pitched in Eb. It has the typical problems in the low range that F tubas generally have like hard to center notes and serious intonation problems and lots of stuffiness and resistance. I have never been able to use my 641 in the quintet work I do, I've always stuck to the larger Willson Eb or my 4/4 Rudolf Meinl CC. In my opinion, the 641 is a great opportunity for the Eb player to have access to a tuba sounding like an F tuba without having to learn yet another set of fingerings. I hope my opinions help you!
