The joy of playing tuba (BBb Bass or Eb Bass) in a British-style brass band is the independence of each part and the musicianship required in what is, essentially, a "30-piece chamber group." For the Eb Bass player, there are some beautiful flowing lines to play, along with more standard bass-type fare. For the BBb Bass player, there is much more opportunity to exploit the extreme low range of the tuba than in most other ensemble music, along with its own unique parts to play, rarely relegated to mere "oom-pah."
