I'm not sure of the origins of the old style "nanny goat" vibrato in British brass bands, but I must admit that I love it. This I believe is what gives the brass band sound the sweet quality and uniqueness that people like. Listen to the Eb cornet on "Brassed Off" and you will see what I mean. That dude has THE definitive British vibrato and is the cherry on the cake of that ensemble(which is Grimethorpe). This old style has fallen out of favor for the most part, but can still be found sometimes in newer recordings. Black Dyke is famous for this sound. Any other old fashioned types that prefer the old style?
