A Yorkbrunner is a Hirsbrunner York Model tuba. The name was coined soon after the instrument was developed in the early '80s. One of Arnold Jacobs famous large York tubas was lent to Hirsbrunner to be copied. The resulting instrument came to be known as the Yorkbrunner. It is a 6/4 size piston valve CC tuba and is used by a number of pro orchestral players as well as some others. Originally they were more or less made to order after a number of orders were placed by players, usually 8 to 12 orders per batch. They are now mass produced. Look up the Hirsbrunner web site in the "shops" category above and you will find a description of the "Grand Orchestral" model, which is what the folks at Hirsbrunner prefer to call it. That's it in a nutshell.
