Mr. Jacobs used a B&S Symphonic model F tuba on the TV broadcast performances of Berlioz' Romeo and Juliet. This is the tuba that preceeded the Perantucci models from the same company.

While he OWNED many instruments, there were few that he played more than once with the orchestra.

I had a Sanders F tuba with (what has been called) a Vienna system with 1-2-3 in the left hand and (more or less) 3-2&4 in the right. Mr. Jacobs told me that Reiner's tuba had the same system and that he had to play Damnation of Faust with his arms crossed in front of the tuba so that the right hand was on 1-2-3. He said that this always made Reiner smile.
