Roger Bobo cut his wonderful Mirafone 184-5U into a D tuba. I played on it a bit when I was there last September. It felt like a low Eb tuba. I'd have to play it some more to really get used to it. On the surface, though, I like the idea. there is a lot of brass quintet music of a baroque nature that would lay really nicely on a D tuba. If I had an old 184, I'd probably try it.
