I believe the 20K to be a 5/4 Sousaphone. If a decent Conn Jumbo or King Giant was to come up for sale price might surprise you. But I do agree with the lack of respect that sousaphones get when compared to their tuba counterparts. If you look at old pictures of professional groups, whether they are dixi, dance or concert bands, sousaphones are present. As far as cutting a 20k, if you were to make the cuts in the correct places you could avoid having the bell drop to the floor. You wouldn't be able to remove the tubing where the factory joints are. You would need to remove the tubing in several places that are 90 degrees from each other and then slightly bend them. You would still end up with a circle, just one with a smaller diameter.
