The above mentioned Mahler 2 by Bruno Walter on Columbia (now Sony) was by the New York Philharmonic with William Bell on tuba. Walter recordings with the Columbia Symphony were mostly done in LA with LA Phil players and studio musicicians. Herb Jaenkel was the tuba player.

The series soundtrack for the Victory at Sea was recorded by the NBC Sym, and very likely with Torchinsky. The stereo remakes were made after Mr. "T" went to Philahdelphia. The studio orch for RCA recordings was made up of free-lancers, but included members of the NY Phil and the Met orch. Harvey Phillips, Bill Bell, Bill Barber, and Herb Wekselblatt are likely suspects. I may be able to pin it down, but probably not before Sean gets back from Devils Island.
