Bin, welcome to the BBs. I can't help you with the Tarto things, but can steer you in some other directions. Check out anything by Dave Gannett, his solo recordings(Tubas From Hell and "Christmas Cookies") and the stuff with the Rosie O'Grady's Good Time Jazz Band. Don't over look Eli Newberger"s stuff(he is actually up your way, plays with the New Black Eagle Jazz Band (AT) Boston). Also check out all of Sam Pilafians stuff. He covers everything from Trad to Experimantal and does it better than anyone. Bob Stewart has a couple of fine cd's out. Howard Johnson is fabulous. Some old time guys you should check out are Bob Short with the Castle Jazz Band and others. Bob was the leading exponent of "less-is-more" tuba playing. He was also the possesor of one of the greatest tuba sounds of all time. Some of the tuba players with the Firehouse Five plus Two groups that were featured at Disneyland in the 50's and 60's had incredible tuba players, actually they were great soloists who maybe weren't the best technicians. Jim Self is astounding, enough said there. I could go on and on. Just get on your favorite browser and type in jazz, tuba and have fun. Good Luck and welcome!!!
