I owned, at about that time, a Sanders BBb rotary tuba. It was an Amati-made stencil horn for Custom Music. It had a bore of about .8 inches, and reasonable 4/4 outer branches. Once I'd fixed the leak in a bad solder joint in the second valve, it played reasonably well. I like my current Miraphone better, but at the time I thought it much better than a rotary Yamaha, which was my other affordable choice at the time.

No, even then they were not quite as durable as some horns. But in the grand scheme of things, they represented a good value for the money. One could certainly have done worse, at least at that time. I haven't played one in years, so I can't comment on their curent offerings.
