Probably true. On the other hand, nobody would pay $600 for a book merely for the information contained therein--that information is too easily gotten elsewhere. And much of what Bevan included in the first book is overwhelmingly (and more accurately) updated in the Tuba Source Book.

So, if someone is really paying that amount, then it must be for its collector value, perhaps among tuba scholars who want "every known publication" on tuba for their bookshelf. I fall into that category myself, but my budget for such things is far below these prices!

And watch the terms, too. To a collector, a "first edition" is the first printing of a book, not just the first version. If it contains mistakes that were later corrected, so much the better.
