First thing is don't buy a tuba at this stage yet. I recomend renting a good name brand tubas (e.g. besson,conn,yamaha,bach,and holton).Stay far away from cheap no name tubas from China,India and other third world countries.They play out of tune,most of the time construction is poorly made.Physicaly his lungs and body structure is not fully developed yet. I would wait untill he finishes high school and see if this is his instrument of choice.I also recomend making an "instrument fund" and putting about a hundred dollars aside for afew years to come.
