I'm not as fastidious about keeping mine super-shiny (well, actually its the school's) but the dripping from leadpipe onto the bell does get annoying, especially when you don't notice it, pick up your horn and get an inpromptu shower! I just try to remember to blow the spit, saliva, condensation, whatever out before I set it down for any appreciable length of time.
