As much as this horn gets bashed on the BBS, I still like my Yamaha 4/4 F as an all around tuba. I have never played a horn on which I feel more comfortable in a quintet. It has a great low register and a nice dark sound with good core but still has the agility of an F tuba. It is very easy to blend with but still cuts through when needed. If you want an idea of what it sound like in orchestral and chamber music settings listen to the recent release of the Los Angeles Philharmonic "Sensemaya." Norm Pearson uses it on everything except "La Noche de los Mayas."
