I would think the PT-48 would do nicely on that sort of horn, though it will emphasize whatever qualities it has as an Attack Tuba. On my Miraphone, the PT-48 gives a strong, powerful sound, big and colorful but dark isn't the first adjective that comes to mind.
The mouthpiece that was originally designed for the horn by Bill Rose was the Tuba Exchange Rose, which is an oversized Helleberg as has been posted in another thread. For me (on different horns than the St. Pete) it affects upper register moreso that the PT-48, but it gets a rounder, less intense sound that some might prefer. For typical band literature, I would expect that it would do nicely.
I don't own a PT-88, and can't compare with that mouthpiece.
