I am a few years older than you are and have been through many of the things you are expericing now (high school,tuba,playing tuba in the high school,choosing to study tuba,travel and audition),I must say there are many very talented tuba players out there and they work very hard, and when you go to auditions (for schools or jobs), you'll meet them.
I did my Eastman audition too, I didn't get in but I had a good time in Rochester and Don Harry is a GREAT guy. I played a good one, oh, I played the Blazevich,too (they are my favorite). I ended up at University of Arizona and spent a great year with Cherry Beauregard, who taught at Eastman for a long time.
