That's only if he wants to play professionally, and in that case, I whole-heartedly agree. If he does not have any musical aspirations beyond high school music or perhaps a community band, than he should not switch. Playing trombone will only help when after high school he wants playing to be his career, and realizes that he can only make euph a career in the military.
