I used drill bits starting with the next size bigger from the original throat size and I turned the drill in reverse to open the throat.
I kept going up one size at a time till I got to the 23/64ths. With what I could find local, it took 4 drill bits. I tried to enlarge each time with as small an increase as possible.
Mine looks pretty smooth for using simple methods.
