ignorant about fiberglass techniques

I've wondered lately about building a paper mache (cardboard, etc.) case shaped just the way I'd want for my tuba (actually, my take-apart helicon). Once done, I was wondering about finding someone who does "fiberglass" and coating the paper mache "frame" heavily with fiberglass. Once done, the fiberglass box would be carefully cut in two, reinforced at key points, hinged, latched, handled, and interior padded (also in this step hiding the paper mache layer). Finally, a band of aluminum would go around the articulating closure for reinforcement.

As I know NOTHING about fiberglass technique, could someone who DOES know about fiberglass techniques explain to me why this is a bad idea BEFORE I ask my fiberglassin' friend about this?
