Hey,

This is really a question for your private teacher, who knows you better. BUT, here's my idea:

Unlike trumpet players, most tuba players who switch to CC tuba from BBb do it then never look back (except drum corp, pep band, etc). There is no transposition, because you're just learning new fingerings (all tuba music is written in concert pitch). If you go really hardcore at CC and don't touch the BBb, you'll be fine in three weeks. But if you do as your director is suggesting, the learning curve might be longer and possibly harder, and not really fair to you, who just spent $4000+ on a brand new horn. In a perfect world, it would not be up to your band director, only you and your teacher. You can't tell him that, but keep it in mind as you start in on your CC.

Thanks,
Aubrey
