I really like the SM 3.5

The rim size is the same as the 3 which I like, but I just couldn't get a "bright" enough sound from the 3.

The problem I've heard with the SM series is that the throat/backbore (?) is so large that it takes more work and control to play very softly very well. This is where the BB series has an advantage, I've been told. As an adult amature (work, family, kids, activites, etc.) my playing time is rather contrained (my choice, really) and my playing is not at a level where this has been a significant problem. But I've met two players who are aiming higher and have had to deal with this issue.
