I've been down this road a few times, (I used to use something around a Bach 1 1/2G on euphonium) and I found that a Wick 2AL or even 1AL will give that large rim feeling, but greater endurance, due to a shallower cup than a 59. I haven't found the Wick SM2 to achieve the same results. I think it's the cup depth that helps here. After using one for awhile, I think you might leave it in for all your band playing. Wick mouthpieces(in silver)are also fairly inexpensive.
