I did not attend either school, but as a junior high and high school student I had the opportunity to participate in some musical things happening at and around Oberlin (not tuba related). I live 20 minutes from there.... Oberlin is close to Cleveland, but the general area of Ohio is very much rural, and Cleveland is about the only cultural center in close proximity. I personally liked the atmosphere of Oberlin, it was a very non-stifling creative environment, and there were lots of people around whom I fit in with!
Not sure how this compares to Rochester, but at any rate..
I know that probably doesn't help much, but those thoughts came to mind.
