Jon,

What do you want an Eb to do? Should it sound the same as a 4/4 CC, but just play more easily in the upper register? Save your money and buy the Willson 5V.

Should it fit the gap between a 4/4 CC and a 3/4 F? Buy the 983. I had one for a few years, and found it worked well in quintet. It was a little too much work for me (extra air resistance) in extended lower passages I would occasionally encounter in pit orchestra stuff with the local civic theater. But the volume level was okay. It had a little too broad of a sound to cover the 2nd 'bone part when played in the octave written, when playing in my quartet. Intonation was great, valve button spacing not a problem, didn't mind the lead-pipe. The case does wobble terribly if you try to pull it along, even though the wheels work fine. A good choice for what I'll call a "traditional" Eb -- not too big, not too small.
