I had a similar experience on thursday night at the Philadelphia Orchestra concert. They played HK Gruber's Frankenstein, and Mahler 5. After the conclusion of the first movement in Mahler, it sounded like a damnned tuberculosis ward. I couldn't believe how many people decided to clear their throats, and nearly ruin the great resolve of the first movement.

On another note:
This said concert was THE BEST concert I have even attended. I am a regular patron of the Philly orch. and also the NY Phil, and this was hands down the best concert I've ever heard. The brass playing was flawless and huge (Ed Diefes playing tuba), and the conductor (Simon Rattle) was spectacular. FYI They're playing this program in Carnegie Hall on tuesday evening. Highly recommended!
