I've never tried a quint fifth valve myself but I can see the advantages. One of the things I really like about the flat whole step fifth is the intuitive nature of the resultant fingerings. For me, they just make total logical sense of a range that can be confusing. Also, I don't think it is a coincidence that Miraphone is now making their horns with the flat whole step fifth. That change speaks volumes to me, even though I'm sure there are folks who really like the other configurations. One of these days I'd like to try out a quint setup but since I'm so happy with the way my current setup works, it would just be a curiosity to me unless a really big light bulb went off in my head.
