Hi,

2000 Grad Master's in Tuba here; I think there are good and bad points to MSU (like any school), but I can't possibly recommend Phil Sinder highly enough. Not only is he a fantastic artist, but he's a caring, supportive, and honest teacher as well as an excellent human being. It's going to sound really corny, but I bring a little "Phil" into my teaching every day - and I don't even really play or teach tuba anymore. I would definitely go there, but consider lots of places - John Stevens (University of Wisconsin-Madison) is also an excellent musician, teacher, and person; Mickey Moore (University of Illinois-Urbana-Champaign) will teach you more in twenty minutes than anyone going; Marty Erickson (Penn State) is wonderful...the list goes on and on.

My 2 cents worth - may it be helpful.
