I was at an outdoor concert last year, of a band I used to play in, and a teenage kid was sitting on a wall, swinging his feet up in the air and banging them on the wall. I went over to him and told him to stop. He looked at me like I had three heads.....but he stopped. I guess I embarrassed him into it.
TV seems not only to cater to the lowest common denominator, but actively lowers it. A huge disappointment is nature shows, some of them on PBS. They'll be talking about an animal or a bird or a fish, and just about the time I start to get interested enough to listen, they change the topic!! How are we ever going to get people who grow up in this culture to settle down long enough to practice an instrument??? Aaaack!
