There have been tubists who used F tubas exclusively in orchestras, but they are pretty rare these days. I saw K. Vynal Smith several times with the BSO in the early 1960's, and he was always holding an F tuba. But I never actually heard him play a note. In a concert band my experience has been that they sound pretty bad beside a big BBb or CC tuba UNLESS they are used exclusively for the high passages. There is a big difference betwen being able to play low notes and being able to make them sound good. But sometime euphonium parts are too low to sound good on euph, and would be better if played on F tuba. (My humble opinion)
