It is indeed possible to only play F tuba. The bigger F tubas such as the Yamaha YFB-822 would fit this niche nicely. I personally esed to use this horn for all of my work. In short, it is possible.
That being said, my only consistent "gigging" at that time was a brass quintet, a dixie band, and an occasional pick-up orchestra. The one horn worked okay in all these situations, but once the honeymoon with my F tuba was over (about a year) I felt myself yearning for more tonal diversity. I am much more musically satisfied now playing a smaller F tuba and a full sized CC.
