I do not wish to diminish anybody's experience in having seen the VPO do Bruckner #8 - far from it. But I do want to point out that the Bruckner 7th that I heard with Barenboim/CSO in Carnegie Hall just this last year, was every bit as good, if not better than the Karajan/VPO Bruckner 5th that I saw in Vienna (1981), or the Bernstein/VPO B9 that I also saw in Carnegie Hall. Again, some credit has to go to the conductors, and Haitink really, really likes B8. Barenboim just happens to do a really great B7.
