That's a valid 'con' that I considered. There are some CCs that have quite a bit of cylindrical tubing in the leadpipe that play well. My Rudy 5/4 is an example. An angled rotary valve cluster like on the Marzans and some Sander tubas(was there a newer Mirafone BBb too?) allows for a very short quick taper pipe. I think that an ascending valve might be servicable in that configuration. I suppose that a conical section and valve could be used for the ascending set up.
