Having danced with the little green man throughout my career, I have begun to use some of Sam Pilafian's breathing exercises in warmups AND on stage during the show. The one that helps the most is the 5-20-10. Inhale for 5 beats, hold for 20,with a breath on 20, then release for 10. I also find chamomile tea helps. Also focus on delivering THE MESSAGE. Even scales should have a musical identity, to paraphrase Mr. Bobo, is it a pirate song or a love song? Listen to Fritz Wunderlich and Barbara Bonney and "sing" your stuff like that.
