Along the line of breath attacks: I can remember when I learned horn having the same problem. It was a tongueing problem for me; I had to be careful that I wasn't giving a "blast" of air at the beginning of the note, when I released my tongue. What was happening, was that the "burble" at the beginning was actually the next higher pitch in the harmonic series, brought about by the extra air.
Give this some experimentation and see if that is your problem.
