No not pitch finder as seen on Kanstul instrumens like my marching baritone in G. On that instrument the pitch finder is very practical on 1+3 and 1+2+3 fingerings. Not by principle but because it is much more ergonomically placed than the 1st slide saddle.

The retainer I think of is a threaded rod sitting on a post mounted on the lower branch ferrule of the slide. The rod goes through a hole in an almost similar post mounted on the slide receiver. The slide movement is limited by the position of the nuts sitting on the "free" end of the threaded rod.

I have seen this device on all Strads with regular tuning slides (non-reversed). I only have two such devices. Both sitting on my Rudy Mück Bb trumpet, which apart from its special way of rolling the flare over the thread of the bell rim is very similar to the older Strads.
