I am too much of a chicken to improvise on the spot... although I do work things out ahead of time and write them down. Some I compose, others come from collections of descants by William Bay, S.D. Wolff, Mark Shepperd, and Douglas Smith. Some even come from the Word Publishing "Instrumental Hymns" book.
