Rosewood was used for decades in guitar and bass fingerboards, and I never heard of a skin reaction from using it. Cocobolo is coming into common use, and likewise for reactions. Sticking something into your mouth and swallowing saliva that comes in contact with it is a whole other ballgame, though.
