I've played Brian's short but narrated work for brass quintet that features the tuba, called "Tales of the Cultural Revolution". It's basically the tale of how Madam Mao outlawed the use of tubas for a short while in China. Then, of course, a really fine tuba player comes along, sings his tune in the orchestra, and the tuba gets rightfully reinstated in Chinese orchestras. The works starts with a smash on a small gong, appropriately enough. As I remember, Brian always did the narration himself, so I guess there wasn't a real prominent horn part. I haven't seen Brian in years, but he's a fun guy to work with. Thanks for the memories.
