The info on popping frequency is interesting. I'll check it out with my box full of tuba mpcs.

My (french) horn has very wide slots, and I am used to that flexibility. I use a small volume cup with a large bore, on horn. I can bend the pitch all over the place, which means I can nail the correct pitch on the same written note, no matter what its position in the chord. Of course, my horn chops are a lot better than my tuba chops to date.

However....after matching the popping frequency as best I can, my options seem to be:
strong player with good sense of pitch
weak player with weak sense of pitch.

How about: developing player with excellent sense of pitch? Just go for the big throat and practice, practice, practice??
