He frequently delivers lectures in universities at home and abroad and has several publications to his name. Robert is currently principal soloist and assistant conductor with the Black Dyke Band, and received The Bandsmen of the Year award in 1997/1998 for his services to the band. Over the past twenty years he has played with most of Britain's leading Brass and Military Bands and has made guest appearances with the London Symphony Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra and the Halle Orchestra. He is very interested in researching old repertoire which might adapt to the euphonium and has arranged and published pieces by Mozart, Hummel, Fiocco, Sarasate and Capuzzi. As well as Robert's interest in old music, he is very much a champion of contemporary music and has commissioned numerous solos and concerti including major works by Nigel Clarke, John Golland, Elgar Howarth and Philip Wilby.

David Childs was born in the Yorkshire village of Grimethorpe in 1981. At the age of three he began playing the euphonium and was taught and inspired by his father, Robert. At the age of eleven David joined the National Youth Brass Bands of Wales and Great Britain. He is now principal euphonium of both bands and in 1998 won the coveted Chapel Shield and Harry Mortimer Award for performance. In December 1997 David was appointed principal euphonium of the world famous Brighouse & Rastrick band (the youngest soloist in their 117 year history). B&R are current National Champions, European Champions and also All England Masters Champions. David is an Associate of the Royal College of Music and is studying for hisA-Levels at Hymers College, Hull. He intends to further his education by reading music at university.

In addition to his academic achievements, he is also an accomplished trombonist and enjoys playing in all types of ensembles, continually widening and developing his musical horizons. David has had the privilege of sharing concerts with some of the world's finest musicians including the London Symphony Brass and the Halle Brass. He has appeared on television and radio and has been involved in many CD recordings, including a recording of him playing duets with his father at the inaugural concert of Manchester's Bridgewater Hall following the 1996 British Open Championships. Since then, he has performed in many of Britain's finest concert halls, including the Royal Albert Hall, the Queen Elizabeth Hall, the Barbican Centre, the Royal Festival Hall and Birmingham's Symphony Hall. David has also visited many countries including, Switzerland, France, Holland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Spain, Ireland and the USA playing solos and duets with his father.

David comes from a very musical family. His grandfather, John was a great euphonium player and conductor. His father, Robert and uncle, Nicholas are two of the leading exponents of the euphonium in the world today. David is currently establishing himself as one of the finest young players in the country and is all set to take the Childs euphonium dynasty well into the new millennium.
