parenthetical: Though the "PT" designation today is mostly related to [English translation] "Brass and Signal-works" (B&S) instruments...today also identified as Vogtländische Musikinstrumentenfabrik (VMI), for clarity you might simply refer to these instruments as "B&S" or "VMI" as in the past the "PT" trademark has been slapped on Kurath-made (Willson - Swiss) instruments as well as Cerveny-made (Czech).

main post: CC tubas and F tubas have different inherent problems to overcome, and each individual instrument should be judged absolutely on its own merit, rather than trying to acquire a "chest" (medieval term referring to a family of viols, recorders, etc. of the same make) of instruments.

As final note, with today's steamroller piston valve fad (just as there was a rotary valve fad in the 1970's - which many band directors continue to nurture today) if one completely overlooks rotary valve tubas, there's probably better than a 70% chance of overlooking some of the very best instruments.
