I wish that Meinl Weston would not have said that the 2000 is "based upon the 2155." Most people that have played both or have closely examined both know that they are totally different.

Physically the wrap on the 2000 is pretty different than the wrap on the 2155. The fifth valve layout and configuration is different and the overall wrap of the 2000 is tighter (yes, tighter). The horn is much lighter and plays nothing like any 2155.

The sound is open, resonant, and clear, while at the same time dark and mellow.

The "handmade" aspect of the horn is fairly misleading. I've spoken directly to Meinl Weston folks and they have even complained about the use of "handmade" in realation to the 2000. They (along with most people) think that by saying the 2000 is handmade one is making the implication that all of Meinl Westons other tubas are machine made, which is not the case. Some parts of the 2000 are made in a much more labor intensive fashion by hand than parts for the 2155 are, but the 2155 isn't "machine made" in the true sense of the words. Besides, all tubas are assembled by hand anyway.

The 2000 is to the 2155 as the Miraphone 188 is the 186.

By-the-way, you can get a silver 2155 if you really have to have a silver tuba.
