I understand your position fully, and I don't disagree. I don't necessarily disagree with Rick, either. You both make some valid points. There is an overabundance of arguing and discussion over what I believe is a listening problem, plain and simple. That may be oversimplifying it a bit, but, garage-sale horns notwithstanding, isn't intonation about listening to yourself, the section, as well as the emsemble, and making everything match? Last time I checked, it's not rocket science we are discussing. Maybe some don't have an ear for it. Maybe some don't know how or what to listen for. Maybe some need to pull their head out of their rears, clean the filth from their ears, and LISTEN. If all players were better listeners, ensembles could play at a much higher level.
